How the Closed-Stem Design Protects Your Column

Unlike an ordinary funnel, the stem of this chromatography funnel is closed. Instead, the lower sides are perforated, so solvent sprays outward through many small holes onto the inside wall of the column and then trickles gently down. Because the eluent never pours straight onto the packing, the silica gel or alumina bed and your sample band stay flat and undisturbed, giving cleaner, more even separations with less channeling.
