This 4-port 38-430 port cap with PTFE insert and plugs is a basic safety cap for secure HPLC solvent delivery from Nalgene® plastic bottles. Closed port cap systems reduce solvent evaporation and exposure, helping labs keep HPLC solvent and waste lines safe and compliant. Optional 1/4-28 tubing fittings can be added to your order; choose from the drop-down menu.

Volatile organic solvents are essential for many lab instruments, including HPLC, LC-MS, FPLC and SFC. However, their use poses significant health and safety risks. Our Solvent Extraction and Delivery Port Caps provide a dynamic, closed-system solution to safely manage these chemicals. Choose adapters based on your preferred tubing size. A set of plugs is included in our kits to maintain a closed system when ports are not in use.

Designed for Nalgene® 38-430 Plastic Laboratory Bottles

The 38-430 thread finish is a widely used standard for plastic laboratory bottles, such as Nalgene® 4-liter plastic bottles. Unlike GL38 glass threads, the 38-430 thread on plastic bottles incorporates additional height and structure, and the thread finish must match for an airtight seal.

Although GL38 glass bottle closures and 38-430 plastic bottle closures share a nominal 38 mm diameter, their thread profiles and dimensions differ and they are not interchangeable. This port cap is specifically designed for Nalgene® plastic bottles with 38-430 threaded closures and should not be used with GL38, GL45 or other incompatible closure types. Verify bottle thread compatibility before installation.

PTFE Insert and Secure Tubing Connections

Our port caps are designed for "active" systems that continuously pump solvents. They offer a secure and effective way to extract and deliver pure reagents and solvents from their reservoirs to your instrument. The 1/4-28 UNF threaded ports sit in a PTFE insert with a tapered sealing surface suitable for use under moderate vacuum or pressure. Each port has a through-hole for 1/8" OD tubing, machined at a 15 degree angle; push tubing through the cap to supply your system. The threaded cap collar is made of polypropylene. If integrated supply tubing which remains in the bottle is required, please inquire for options.

Venting and Evaporation Control

Balanced to control airflow with effective mitigation of both evaporation and fumes, closed port caps protect lab personnel and prevent the loss of expensive reagents. Choose from caps with or without evaporation control: caps with integrated one-way valves allow air to enter the bottle to displace solvent removed, while minimizing solvent evaporation.

Please note: this cap does not have a built-in air check valve, so it requires an alternative way to accept air into the bottle as the solvent is displaced, such as part # WF-PR-115 air inlet valve, or by attaching a nitrogen or helium gas line in order to sparge the solution prior to use.

For labs which do not need to use groundable safety containers, we offer these port caps to adapt to standard drum and pail closures, as well as Nalgene® 83B, 53B, and 100-415 carboys. PLEASE NOTE THAT IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO GROUND DRUM, PAIL, GLASS BOTTLE AND CARBOY (NON-JUSTRITE®) CONTAINERS; THIS MAY RESULT IN A SAFETY HAZARD WITH FLAMMABLE SOLVENTS.
